city of god

a couple of nights ago i watched the movie "City of God" for the first time. I thought it was a great movie and made me think about how lucky i am to live in America, even with its flaws. "The City of God" is the slum suburb of Rio de Janeiro where organized crime, drug leaders and gangs grows popular over the years. some scenes in the movie are too hard to watch but you learn a whole lot and realize that you don't have things too bad off. the movie is about a kid named Rocket who lives in the City of God, he narrates the movie and introduces you to all the characters he met growing up and had to live with and fear. i honestly can't believe it was based on a true story. the other main character is a drug dealer named Lil' Ze who runs the City of God. He puts Alex Delarge to shame with his ultra violence, killing many people and wanting to take over the whole city and be the only drug dealer in town. he started his career early by running around with the Tender Trio, who would steal money and would share it with their families and the poor population of the City of God. But Lil' Ze started killing after one night of going out with the Tender Trio and taking matters into his own hands. Rocket, whose older brother was part of the Tender Trio, never had any interest in crime and the way of living so many other young ones ended up taking. you learn about the events that took place through rockets eyes and knowledge, and he is successful in not getting swept up in crime life. the movie ends with him witnessing Lil Ze's death and taking pictures of it which catapults him into becoming a photographr, which was his dream ever since he was young. i think everyone should watch this movie cause it opens your eyes to all the unfortunate things that take place due to poverty.
