Figurines & Memories

Every time I see this figurine on my night stand I always think about my Great-Grandma Ruby. She past away last December & I've missed her a lot. It's funny how you don't realize how big of an impact somebody makes on your life until they're gone & you wish you could have had more time to tell them how amazing they really were. I admire her so much, I think by remembering all the grace, beauty and poise she had helps shape me into the young woman I am growing up to be. I was so happy that after her funeral I got to take this figurine home from her house. Ever since I was little I always loved staring at it & holding it in my hands. It reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara from Gone with the Wind, which is one of my favorite movies of all-time. Just like Scarlett my Grandma Ruby was a strong woman. I cherish this figurine and the memories of my Grandma it brings to me.

Best Coast

I'm falling hard for the band Best Coast. I love their songs they are so catchy to sing and dance along too, reminding me of beach days and just cruising around the city. Bethany Cosentino has become a hero of mine. I bought my ticket to see them at the Echoplex on June 8th with Health, Gold Panda, and Indian Jewelry (another band I've been getting really into.) Best Coast won't release an album until later this year and I can't for it to be released. It will be much anticipated. But for now their EP's and Singles have filled the space on my ipod. Here's a link to Pitchfork's interview with Bethany about her new album:

Beirut - "Nantes"

Seconds after this video started I fell in love with it and discovered a new appreciation for Beirut, and a bigger appreciation for his music.

Pass this On

I love this music video to The Knife's song "Pass This On" especially the ending when everybody starts dancing. I can't believe that was a transvestite lip-syncing to the the song. He/She is one of the prettiest transvestites I've ever seen. I really love this song by The Knife off their album Deep Cuts. It's so catchy and every time I listen to it I feel like getting up and dancing to it like how everyone in the music video is dancing to the song. Thats why I think the video goes so good with the song because the dance moves flow great with the music and you can tell he/she is having a good time singing along to the song.

to binge..

If I didn't love the Gorillaz enough already Coachella just made me love them even more, more than I could imagine. Their whole set at Coachella was great! It was amazing to see the mastermind behind the band, Damon Albarn sing live and with Yukimi Nagano from Little Dragon up on the stage with him. In this clip they are performing my favorite track of "Plastic Beach" called "To Binge." The song is so beautiful and relaxing. I don't see how anyone cannot love this song, the lyrics are breathtaking. In my mind I picture 2-D and Noodle singing it to each other, just like how Damon and Yukimi are singing it to each other on stage. This was definitely the highlight of the set for me. And I was so happy when they played their older songs like "Clint Eastwood" & "Feel Good Inc." The whole crowd couldn't help but sing along too. I don't think even one person was not singing along to those two songs. The Gorillaz know how to put on a good show and sound so great live. I read a lot of comments from people criticizing the Gorillaz for being boring & others saying they expected more, I strongly disagree. They delivered and made my Coachella experience complete.

Lovely view from the balcony of the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Beautiful green grass, trees, and bushes in the foreground with clear blue skies, tall buildings in the background. Corrupted by a line of smog flowing through the atmosphere.

Plastic Beach

About a month ago I posted an entry about my excitement for the Gorillaz's new album "Plastic Beach" to be released. And after owning it for quite some time now I have to say that it is simply Brilliant! I listened to it from start to finish and after it was done I had a full appreciation for it. There are so many great songs to dance along with and slower songs that have beautiful lyrics to listen to and a good number of hip-hop tracks. Collaborations with Snoop Dogg to Lou Reed, from Mos Def to Little Dragon, it just shows how many artists wanted to be featured on this album. If you have not listened to "Plastic Beach" yet you're definitely missing out.
